Taecan.com Announces Content Partnership
With the Los Angeles County Bar Association

Online CLE Provider Addresses Backlog of Required Credits for California Lawyers

SEATTLE, February 8, 2000 – Taecan.com, the world’s leading provider of business to business Internet-based Continuing Professional Education (CPE) courseware today announced a new content partnership with the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA).

For the past two years, the state of California has not required lawyers to fulfill annual CLE credits. A recent Supreme Court ruling, however, reinstated the mandatory CLE program which forces over 130,000 lawyers in the state of California to fulfill a backlog of up to 61 required credits. California lawyers are now questioning how to fulfill their requirements in such a short amount of time and Taecan’s online courseware provides a solution.

The partnership between Taecan and LACBA enables LACBA to offer California lawyers a convenient, cost-effective way to fulfill these requirements before the end of the next compliance period on January 31, 2001.

"The Supreme Court ruling puts California lawyers under intense pressure to fulfill two years worth of CLE credits. By offering convenient online CLE, Taecan makes it possible for California lawyers to fulfill their overload of courses without sacrificing time or billable hours to their firm," says Richard Walch LACBA Executive Director. "This partnership is beneficial to California lawyers with both immediate and future needs for CLE requirements."

"By partnering with content providers like LACBA, Taecan.com can offer lawyers the most extensive selection of CLE courses," says Patrick Vane, CEO of Taecan.com. "This partnership enables Taecan to address a specific issue for California lawyers, at the same time increasing awareness of our service within a major audience for us – the state of California."

Under the agreement, Taecan will deliver LACBA’s CLE content via the Internet to California Lawyers. As one of the largest and well-known providers of CLE in the state of California, LACBA benefits by expanding the reach of their courseware through Taecan to include lawyers internationally as well as nationally. Lawyers can immediately access this convenient, cost-effective alternative to traditional classroom CLE from their home or office computers.

In addition to expanding the availability of Taecan’s online CLE courseware, the partnership between Taecan and LACBA provides LACBA members with the convenience of Taecan’s "KeepTrack," a continuously available proprietary tracking system, which allows lawyers to track and report their CLE compliance online during their reporting period.

Background on the Supreme Court Ruling
For the past 10 years, the California State Bar has been evaluating the state’s continuing legal education requirements. Due to widespread opposition from the legal community to special requirements and exemptions for certain members of the legal profession, the California State Bar decided not to require CLE credits for the last two years. A recent Supreme Court ruling reinstated the mandatory CLE program, and because the ruling is retroactive, many lawyers have as many as 61 hours to complete before the next compliance period on January 31, 2001.
