Taecan.com to Provide Streaming Video of CLE Courses.

Video available immediately as an option to users.

SEATTLE, WA   April 18, 2001  -  Taecan.com-the recognized leader for Online CLE-today announced that effective immediately it will offer Continuing Legal Education courses in a video format as well as its traditional audio/text format.  As a result of modifications to the Taecan web site, attorneys wishing to take courses on the Taecan.com site will now have the option of selecting either video or audio for those courses where video is available.

Taecan.com has contracted with numerous bar organizations to offer their courses over the internet and as a result Taecan has aggregated the largest collection of Online CLE courses in the world.   A growing number of those courses will be available in a video format , with Taecan’s bar organization “Sponsors” deciding whether they wish to produce their courses in a video format.  Video production is more expensive and complex than audio production.

While Taecan has long had the ability to offer “streaming video”, video CLE is presently significantly limited because the “end users”-the attorneys-do not have sufficient “bandwidth” to receive a video stream of satisfactory quality.  Video is jerky and ineffective when received over a 56k modum-which is still the most common means of connecting to the internet.  Video is of acceptable quality when it is received over DSL or cable, and more and more attorneys have this capability.   Taecan will make it clear to attorneys when they register that they must have these enhanced capabilities in order to receive video effectively.

“Online CLE will not reach its full potential until it is widely available in a video format.  While the great majority of attorneys will unfortunately not yet be able to receive video CLE, we felt it was time to offer video as an option in order to stay on the cutting edge of Online CLE-a place where we’ve been for the last five years.”
