LACBA doubles it’s 2001-2002 online CLE catalogue with more than 50 MCLE hours through unique partnership with Taecan.com. Los Angeles and Seattle, WA September 15, 2001 - In a much welcomed effort to extend the availability of quality Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) to it’s more than 27,000 registered lawyer/members, The Los Angeles County Bar Association and Taecan.com announced plans today to extend their offering of more than 50 hours of online continuing legal education seminar programming produced by LACBA over the past year. Taecan announced it will begin adding the new LACBA courses to it’s current library of 350 titles immediately. This will be the second year LACBA member Lawyers have been able to access high quality LACBA MCLE courses online before the annual January 31, 2002 compliance deadline. Lawyers in California are required to take Mandatory Continuing Legal Education ( MCLE) to maintain their professional licenses. Many rely on courses produced by LACBA, and presented throughout the year to it’s members, to help satisfy this requirement. This year, the LACBA catalogue is expected to exceed 50 hours of quality programming available in time to assist their members with their MCLE requirements. Not all LACBA member attorneys are able to attend live MCLE programming. Professional commitments and other distractions prevent many from taking advantage of the quality MCLE being made available by LACBA. For the second year in a row, the LACBA has partnered with Taecan.com to make these high quality legal education seminars available online for attorneys unable to attend live programming. Special LACBA Packages and pricing will be available for MCLE Subspecialties and Legal Specialization courses As a part of the basic MCLE requirement, all California lawyers, including LACBA members, are also required to take courses in special sub- fields such as Legal Ethics, Elimination of Bias and the Prevention, Detection and Treatment of Substance Abuse and Emotional Distress Sometimes these courses are difficult for attorneys to find and take. In order to make it easier for lawyers to meet this special requirement, LACBA and Taecan.com have created special packaging and pricing for more than 15 courses in the required sub- specialties. "LACBA is delighted to serve it’s members with a greatly expanded 2001-2002 catalogue for online MCLE. We know our members are busy practitioners and sometimes cannot attend one of LACBA’s quality live MCLE seminars. Having an option to earn their MCLE credits online means LACBA members have the best technology available to improve their professional lives. Online MCLE with Taecan.com is a member benefit LACBA is delighted to offer" Tim Elliot LACBA commenced the online MCLE project a year ago with Taecan.com and found that their members enthusiastically embraced this convenient alternative to live MCLE. Since the initiation of the online courses 12 months ago, hundreds of LACBA courses have been taken by LACBA attorneys needing to meet their deadlines. It is expected this pattern will continue with the expanded online versions of the 2001 2002 MCLE seminars. As we enter our second full year of partnership with the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Taecan.com is delighted to be a part of making high quality MCLE more convenient for LACBA members. Partnering with LACBA to bring “ just in time” MCLE to their busy lawyer members provides a valuable tool to make a lawyers scarce time more manageable . This delivery mechanism is a clear benefit to LACBA member attorneys. Patrick Vane
