Online CLE Provider, Taecan.com Publishes 1,000th Course
e-learning
pioneer serves demand for online legal education in Atlanta
SEATTLE,
June 27, 2002 – Taecan.com, (www.taecan.com)
the global leader in Online Continuing Legal Education (CLE) today published
its 1,000th online legal seminar in the United States for The Atlanta
Bar Association (www.atlantabar.org).
Taecan.com’s milestone course; Shaping the Destiny of Democracy
is a streamed broadband video discussion of electoral reform issues in
the wake of the 2000 elections. It is one of 20 hours of state-specific
CLE courses published for The Atlanta Bar Association on Taecan.com. The
panel features CNN legal analyst and co-host of Burden of Proof, Roger
Cossack; Laughlin McDonald, director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights
Project and Florida Attorneys David Cardwell and Thomasina Williams who
were both involved in litigation related to the 2000 elections.
Available to attorneys in all states, the CLE course examines the questions
of electoral reform, barriers to voting rights, the role of the media
in electoral reform, and the work of Presidents Jimmy Carter and Gerald
R. Ford with the National Commission on Federal Election Reform.
The 1,000-course milestone is significant for lawyers as it demonstrates
the increasing demand for online tools in the legal field, said Taecan.com
CEO, Patrick Vane. “Lawyers are busy serving their clients and with
CLE mandatory in most states, they struggle to find time to travel to
CLE seminars,” Vane said. “The Internet provides a convenient
and cost effective alternative.” CLE is mandatory in 40 states or
for about 80% of the 1 million lawyers practicing law in the United States.
Online CLE is now permitted in 25 states.
Taecan.com, which recently celebrated its fifth year of successful operation,
was the first online CLE provider in the US, publishing its first course
in 1998. By publishing state-specific CLE courses for the leading state,
local, and specialty bar associations in the US, Taecan.com helps attorneys
to comply online with their mandated CLE requirements. According to the
Director of CLE for the Atlanta Bar, Marry Lynne Johnson, “Taecan.com
makes it possible for our lawyers, under deadline, to fulfill their annual
mandated CLE requirements online without sacrificing time or billable
hours to their firm or company.”
