Washington State Supreme Court

8. Can credits be carried over from year to year?
15 hours to next reporting period

9. Reminder/delinquency notice procedure/enforcement:
a. December 7, form sent to each attorney to list credits earned.

b. January 31, report due.

c. January 1- May 1, attorneys may make up credit deficiencies "as a matter of right," but must pay a late fee.

d. May 15, "Notice of Apparent Noncompliance" sent to those not in compliance. Some submit petitions for extensions, and are given until August 31 to comply.

e. July 1, "Notice of Pendency of Action" sent to those not in compliance; they are given 10 days to respond.

f. July 15, letter sent to Supreme Court listing those to be suspend; Court notifies lawyers that they are suspended.

g. August 31, those given extension to August 31, but not yet in compliance, receive "Notice of Pendency of Action."

h. September 1, list of those not in compliance per (g) above sent to Court; Court notifies lawyers that they are suspended.

10. Tracking accredited courses and attendance:
e. Sponsors or lawyers in attendance may apply for and receive accreditation. Sponsors are required to submit an attendance roster to the MCLE Office. MCLE Office compiles a list of all accredited programs. MCLE Office checks to see that all attorneys have submitted form reporting adequate credit hours. Such forms may be compared to list of accredited courses, to ensure that programs listed on the form were accredited.

13. Luncheon/dinner speeches accredited?
No, unless time for speech is set out separately from meal function.

14. Is credit given for teaching?
Yes, 1:1 hour of preparation (max 10 hours credit for each hour of lecture.)

15. Is credit given for writing?
Yes; 10 hour maximum per article.

16. Is credit given for audio or videotape?
Yes, but limited to 1/3 of actual time spent.

17. Is credit given for computer-based education?
Yes

18. Is credit given for in-house training?
Yes. Prior approval is needed.

19. Is credit given for other activities?
5 hours credit can be reported for chairing a panel at a seminar.

20. Special requirements
6 hours ethics required each reporting period.

Video, Audio tape, computer.
